Har ki Dun

Har-Ki-Doon (3566 m) is situated in the western part of Uttarkashi District, at the base of Fateh Parvat. This cradle-shaped valley, south-east of Jaundhar Glacier,is surrounded by glittering peaks on the north-western side and by dense forest of Pine, Deodar and other coniferous trees from south eastern side. The forest is rich in wild life and is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. Himalayan birds including game birds such as black partridges and jungle fowl are available in this area. The people of this region worship Duryodhan of the Mahabharat fame.

The trek commences from Naitwar village which is easily accessible by motor from Dehradun and Mussoorie via Nawgaon and Purola (143 km). The trek from Naitwar to Taluka trails along a motorable road on the upper bank of river Sup in. At Naitwar the Rupin and Supin rivers meet and thereafter it is known as river Tons. This trek presents a panoramic view of the Supin valley with the Fateh Parvat shadowing it. The trek ITom Naitwar to Osla is through very dense forest of Chestnut, Wall nut, Willoda and Chinars. The trek from Osla to Har-Ki-Doon is through terraced mountain fields, lush green grassy land and coniferous forests. The best season to visit Har-Ki-Doon valley is from June and in the rainy season when multi coloured flowers bloom, presenting a heavenly sight. Botanists, bird watchers and explorers will find it all interesting trekking expedition.

During rainy season the starting point for Har-Ki-Doon is from Purola. Purola-Naitwar motor road is a fair weather road only. Har ki Doon Trek is located at the base of Fetch Pravat, at an altitude of 3,556 meters. Har Ki Doon , the cradle shaped valley is a paradise for trekkers, bird watchers and naturel lovers. Dense forests of pines and glittering mountain peaks surround the valley. This moderate trek takes you to one of the least explored regions of Garhwal Himalayas. The valley is scattered with wild Himalayan Flowers and the whole valley looks colorful during flowering season in monsoon.

The best time for trekking in Har ki doon valley is June to October. During the rest of the years the region remains either very cold or wet. The valley is full of wildlife, which makes it a paradise for nature lovers

The trek starts from Netwar to Osla through dense forests of chestnuts, walnuts, willows and chinars. The trek from Osla to Har-ki-doon is through terraced mountain fields, lush green grassy land and conifer forests. Har ki Doon is one of the most fascinating and least visited areas of the Garhwal Himalaya.

Har ki Dun Trek Itinerary:

Day 01):RISHIKESH - DEHRADUN – NAUGAON (165 KMS):
In the morning at 0700 hrs board Shatabdi Express from New Delhi railway station for Dehradun. Breakfast onboard. Arrive Dehradun at 1240 hrs, pickup and after lunch drive to Naugaon. Arrive Naugaon in the evening & check into the guest house for dinner & overnight.

Day 02): NAUGAON – SANKRI (82 KMS) – TALUKA (1900 MTS, 10 KMS, 2-3 HRS TREK):
Morning after breakfast drive to Sankri and from here trek start for Kari – Ki – doon. Today trek to Taluka 10 kms from Sankri. Dinner and overnight in the tented camp.

Day 03): TALUKA – OSLA (13 KMS, 4 – 5 HRS TREK, 2559 MTS):
Today trek to Osla, one of the most beautiful villages in the Fateh Parvat region. The trek is through very dense forest of Chestnut, Walnut, Willow and China. Here, you have a beautifully carved temple dedicated to Duryodhana, the kaurava Prince. Overnight in the tented camp.

DAY 04, OSLA – HARI – KI – DOON (14 KMS, 4 – 5 HRS TREK, 3566 MTS):
Today trek to Hari – Ki – Doon. The trek passes through terraced mountain fields, lush green grassland and coniferous forests. The attractions of Har Ki Dun Trek is beautiful scenery with a series of flowered meadows of gentians, anemones and buttercups with the glistening snow clad Swargarohini Peak, which is famous in Hindu legend, being 'the gateway to heaven'. Overnight in the tented camp.

DAY 05, HARI – KI – DOON – OSLA:
Morning free to enjoy the beauty of hari – ki – doon. After early lunch trek to Osla. Overnight in tented camp.

DAY 06, OSLA – TALUKA - SANKRI: Today trek to Sankri, a down hill trek. Reach Sankri in the evening and check into the guest house for overnight.

Har ki Dun TrekDAY 07, SANKRI – MUSSOORIE - DEHRADUN - RISHIKESH:
Morning after breakfast depart by motor coach for Dehradun. Enroute visit Lakhamandal, Kempty Falls and Mussoorie. Arrive to Rishieksh.
